What changes in v4.0
--RESCAT (Result Category) is removed from the MI and MS specification tables. Appendix E is explicit for MS: "MS Specification table updated to remove the MSRESCAT/MS Result Category variable. New Assumption 5 added to clarify that the MSRESCAT variable had been demoted since the SDTMIG v3.2. MSRESCAT is now removed from the SDTMIG v4.0 officially."
What to do about it
For MS the target is stated by CDISC and requires no interpretation: controlled values for MSRESCAT map to MSSTRESC, as the results for MSTEST = Microbial Susceptibility (C85540). Do not route MS content to a non-standard variable — a standard home exists. For MI the removal is evidenced by the specification diff only, with no migration guidance published, so decide and document the target there separately.
What the scan can and cannot see
The variable is declared, and for MS Appendix E states the removal and names MSSTRESC as the target in prose. For MI the removal rests on the specification-table diff with no published migration guidance - a statement about the standard, which confidence carries, not about what this Define-XML shows.

Every claim above rests on one of these. Where a line is from the public-review draft it says so, because a draft can still move.
